Mrs. Smith became ill last February and Wednesday her condition became such that she was removed to the St. Johns hospital where an operation was planned. She died, however, before an operation could be performed. Mrs. Smith was born in Muir and attended school in Muir. As a young woman she became an accomplished musician and taught piano for many years until her health forced her retirement only a few months ago. She was married to George Smith of Waldron. Mr. Smith died 16 years ago and Mrs. Smith after living in Waldron for 13 years returned to her home in Muir where she lived with her aged father until his death a few years ago. Mrs. Smith was an active member of the republican party and for many years a county committee delegate to the state republican conventions. At the time of her death she was assessor for the village of Muir having been elected this spring. [Unreadable line] ... Presbyterian church, president of the Ladies Aid society and superintendent of the Sunday school. She was church pianist at the time of her death and had held that position for many years. She belonged to the Muir Literary club and the Ionia Business and Professional Woman’s club. Funeral services will be held from the Presbyterian church in Muir at 2 p.m. Sunday.
