He had been in poor health about six years, a paralytic stroke which he suffered a few weeks ago hastening the end. Funeral services were held at the house one and one- half mile east of Compton corners Sunday afternoon, and burial was in Danby cemetery. Mr. Smith was born in Birmingham, Ohio, 75 years ago last December. At the age of 10 he came with his parents to Danby. Fifty-five years ago he married Miss Sylvia Peake, the ceremony having been performed in Portland. The couple at once began housekeeping on the farm where he died. There is one surviving child, Mrs. Eugene Lyon, of Danby. The widow and a sister, the latter Mrs. Margaret I. Pike, of Oklahoma City, Okla., also survive. Mrs. Pike is 85 years old and the last of a family of 11 children.
