The Portland Observer, Thursday, January 31, 1924
The funeral of Querin Smith, a former resident of Portland, who passed away 
Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Matt Cook, near Pewamo, was held at 
the St. Mary’s church, at Westphalia., Tuesday morning.  Burial was made in 
the cemetery at that place.

Mr. Smith was born in Germany eighty-six years ago and came to this country 
when a small lad with his parents.  He lived in Westphalia township until 
about 19 years ago, when he moved to Portland.  He lived in Portland until 
about a year ago when he went to reside with his daughters.  His wife died 
about four years ago.

The couple had eleven children, all of whom are living.
