Elmer C. Smith, 80, of 422 Kent Street, Portland died Tuesday.  He was born 
Oct. 30, 1904, in Clinton County, the son of Frank and Lucella Rice Smith.

He was retired from TRW, Portland, where he worked as a tool grinder.  He was 
a member of the Portland United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 31, F. 
& A. M.

Surviving are his wife, Muriel; a son, Richard E. of Middleville; two 
daughters, Mrs. Richard (Carolyn) Smith of Portland and Mary Lou Millen of 
Lansing; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one sister, Bessie 
Blackman of Dunedin, Fla.  

Masonic services will be conducted at Neller Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. 
Thursday.  Funeral services will be at Neller Funeral Home Friday at 1 p.m., 
with the Rev. Dow Chamber of the Portland United Methodist Church 
officiating.  Burial will be in Portland Cemetery, with Harold Gates, Bert 
Denny, Russell Curtis, Emmet Watson, Robert Higbee and William Ingram serving 
as pallbearers.
