William Smith, for 78 years a resident of Danby township, died Sunday at his farm home near the Grange hall after several days of confining illness. Funeral services were held from the residence Wednesday afternoon. Burial was made in Danby cemetery. Born in Sandusky, Ohio, November 7, 1848, Mr. Smith came to Danby with his parents when five years of age, the family settling on the farm where his death occurred and where he resided continuously for over 78 years. When a young man he was married to Lucina Brooks, who passed away ten years ago, several years after they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Smith had been a member of Danby Grange for over half a century and at one time served his township as highway commissioner. Two children survive, Mrs. Pearl Morris, clerk of Danby township, and Milo Smith, who, with his family, resides on the old homestead.
