Mr. Smith was born in England and lived three-fourths of his life there. He married and reared a family of children and one by one they slipped away to America and Canada until only one of the children remained in the old country. This was 20 years ago. Then Mr. Smith and his wife left the fatherland and also came to America and settled in Ionia. Shortly after they came here their last child near the old home, Mrs. Jessie Scott, also came to Ionia and is residing here. It was the custom of Mr. Smith to spend a large amount of his time with Mrs. Scott and on Thursday of this week went to see her and remained over until Sunday evening. He seemed as well as usual and left about 7 o’clock. On the way home he was stricken with illness an died about two hours later. The funeral services will be held from the Bradley Funeral home Wednesday afternoon. He is survived by the widow and the following children: Mrs. Jessie Scott and Mrs. Agnes Sumner, of Ionia; Mrs. Florence Heard, Connecticut; Mrs. Alice McKenzie, Toronto, Can.; and Mrs. Ethel Mallaby, British Columbia.
