Smith, 62, of Ionia township, died Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Nobleton, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Smith had been spending the winter in Florida. He was born near Muir October 9, 1887, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Loroy E. Smith. The family moved to Grand Rapids and Oregon, returning to Ionia in 1908, when they purchased the Eb. Kelsey farm, now owned by Ed. Townsend. He was married to Mary E. Lennon April 15, 1914, and they remained with his parents for a year before moving to the Tip Kelsey farm in Ionia township, which they owned until 1947, when he sold it and retired. Mr. and Mrs. Smith spent their summers in Northern Michigan and their winters in Florida. Surviving are the wife; three daughters, Mrs. Velma E. Wert of Port Orange, Fla., Mrs. Katherine Eaton of Lansing, and Mrs. Lina Stebbins of Ionia; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Stone-Kauffman funeral home. Interment will be in North Plains cemetery.
