The Ionia Standard, Monday, April 10, 1893

Mrs. M. L. Smith died at 7 o’clock this morning, at her home in Chicago.  The 
remains will arrive here tomorrow evening, and the funeral will take place 
Wednesday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. D. G. Smith.  Deceased has not 
been well since the death of her daughter Blanche—her only child—about a year 
and a half ago, shortly before the family moved to Chicago, and it has been 
known for some time that she could not recover.  Her maiden name was Ella M. 
Starkey, and she was a daughter of Henry Starkey of Evart.  She lived in Ionia 
for a quarter of a century, and had a wide circle of friends here.
