Smith, 13540 W. Grand River Ave., Eagle, 86, died Friday at a Lansing hospital. He was born April 3, 1892 in Portland, the son of Charles Smith and Melissa Briggs. He was a retired electrician and a member of IBFW local 665 for more than 50 years. Mr. Smith was a WWI veteran and a life member and past master of Masonic Lodge No. 31 F&AM. He also was a life member and past high priest of the Portland Chapter No. 39 RAM And was a life member and thrice illustrious master of council No. 23 R&SM. He was a member of the Saladin Temple Shrine of Grand Rapids; the Ionia Commandry No. 11 Knights Templer; and was a past patron and life member of OES No. 258. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Eagle; four sons, Douglas, Richard and Allen, all of Portland and Roger of Apple Valley, Calif.; four daughters, Geraldine Lakin, of Baldwin Park, Calif., Harriet Patrick, of Eagle, Mary Alice Lawless and Marcia Ackerson, both of Portland; 26 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at the Neller Funeral Home with the Rev. David Morton, of Eagle United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be conducted by the Portland lodge No. 31 F&AM at North Eagle Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael McCollar; Mark Ackerson; Kenneth Lawless; Allan Behnke; Brian Pline; and Stephen, Michael and Wesley Smith.
