Kathleen M. “Kathy” (Spedoske) Smith, of Ionia, age 64, died unexpectedly 
March 3, 2008.

She was born Feb. 16, 1944 in Lansing, Mich., the daughter of Dominic and 
Carolyn (Lutjens) Spedoske. Kathy was employed with Ionia County Community 
Mental Health as a secretary with over 18 years of loyal service. She had a 
warm heart and cared tremendously for and about her family and friends. She 
had a great love and appreciation for nature and animals, especially 
butterflies, swans and her dog and companion, Zoe Kate.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Carol and 
Patricia.  Survivors include her brother Steven (Linda) Spedoske and their 
children, Ben, Nick and Katie (Bill) Atkin who thought of her as a second 
mother; brothers and sisters Michael (Deb), William (Sherry), Robert (Stacy), 
John (Louann), Betty Kiter, Mary Hoppes and Sally (Dennis) Miller; former 
spouse and loving friend Dave Smith; along with numerous nieces, nephews, 
aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. She will be greatly missed by all 
who knew her.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2008, 11 a.m. at Holihan-
Atkin Funeral Home 406 N. Bridge St. Grand Ledge. Visitation Friday 6 to 8 
p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Meijer Gardens Tribute Program. In 
the words of Kathy herself, “I'm outta here!”
