The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, November 8, 1927

Mason Smith, of Long lake, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Myron 
Fenton, of Crystal, Monday at 10 o’clock following a stroke which he suffered 
Sunday.

Mr. Smith was 77 years of age and with Mrs. Smith, who has been helpless from 
rheumatism for the past 18 years, went to the home of their daughter several 
weeks ago.  They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Justin Smith, a son and wife 
who had been living with them, and Mr. and Mrs. Justin Smith and Mr. and Mrs. 
Fenton united their forces in caring for the couple.

The body of Mr. Smith was taken back to the old home at Long lake Tuesday 
afternoon.  The funeral services will be held there Wednesday at 2 o’clock and 
burial will be in the Orleans cemetery.

Besides the invalid wife, there are five surviving children, Mrs. Fenton, 
Justin Smith, Mrs. Gilbert Huested, of Long lake, Mrs. Morton Hall, of 
Chadwick, and Mrs. Sweet, of Grand Ledge.
