Jerome Halstead Smith was born in Lyons, Michigan, July 19, 1874, and died at 
his home here Saturday, April 19, 1919, after an illness of only two days, aged 
44 years and 10 months.

He attended the Lyons schools and later learned the barber trade.  When 
nineteen years of age he went to Grand Rapids to follow the barber business, 
and until he returned to Lyons two years ago, had spent the intervening years 
in Grand Rapids, with the exception of two years in Ionia just previous to 
returning to Lyons.  In 1896 he was married to Rhoda Chase at Lyons, and to 
them were born two children, Mrs. Clair Galloway of Ionia and Gilbert Smith of 
Saranac; the mother passing away when the younger child was seventeen months 
old.  He was married in 1906 to Minnie Burnett at Grand Rapids, who with the 
two children survive to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father.

Funeral services were held from the home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. 
Geo. A Brown of the M. E. church.  Interment in the Lyons cemetery.  The 
services were largely attended, and business places were closed during the 
funeral.  The pall bearers were Myron Brown, Louis Pottruff, Geo. W. Staley, 
John H. Shoemaker, John W. Currigan and E. W. Buchanan.

Following were those from out of town who attended the funeral: Mrs. Sheridan 
Ford, Detroit; Mrs. Wm. Jury and Geo. W. Amsden, Pewamo; Mr. and Mrs. Frank 
Ruggles and Arden Ruggles, Montrose; Rollo Smith, Grand Rapids; Mrs. Wm. 
Crandall, Muir; Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Myers, Mr. and Mrs. 
Percy Churchill, Mr. and Mrs. A. Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Harwood, Mrs. Andrew 
Alleick, Mrs. Fred Galloway, Mrs. ?? Galloway, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Galloway, Mr. 
and Mrs. Hugh Galloway, Edw. Johnson, Ionia.
