Adeline M. Smith, 89 of Portland passed away on Feb. 10, 2007.

She was born on March 21, 1917 the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Schafer) 
Gensterblum. Adeline was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland and 
sang with the church’s Resurrection Choir. She was an avid bingo and card 
player, and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers. On May 30, 1938 she married 
Roman E. Smith, who later preceded her in death in 1975.

Adeline is also preceded by her brother Francis Gensterblum and brother-in-law 
Reynold Miller.

She is survived by her siblings, Rita Miller of Pewamo, Helen Rogers of 
Portland, and Tillie (Bob) Hufnagel of Portland, and several nieces and 
nephews. 

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 14 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 
Portland. Rite of Committal followed at Portland Cemetery. Arrangements we 
handled by the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Adeline’s name to either the 
Ionia County Commission on Aging or the Portland Area Senior Center. Online
