Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard - Wed. Feb. 10, 1937

Mrs. M. Lucetta Smith, 61, wife of Herbert L. Smith, former Ionia county 
register of deeds died at her home at Woodard lake Tuesday afternoon at 4 
o’clock following an illness of the past four years.

She was born at Shiloh, March 25, 1875 and has spent her entire life in Ionia 
county. On December 25, 1894 she married Herbert Smith and to this union was 
born two sons, Gorham, who died in July 1930, and Milton of Ionia township and 
two daughters, Mrs. Vannie Brown of Ionia, and Mrs. Mary Dennis of Ronald 
township. She also leaves two brothers, Marvin F. Leach of Bellaire and T.L. 
Leach of Port Huron, a sister, Mrs. Adah Moody of Grandville and seven 
grandchildren. 

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Ionia Church of Christ, a member of the Queen 
Esther chapter OES and deputy register of deeds under her husband, Herbert L. 
Smith from 1925 until 1931.

Funeral services will be held from the home at Woodard lake, Friday afternoon 
at 2 o’clock with Rev. Paul Stewart officiating. Interment will be at the 
Woodard lake cemetery.


Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard – Sat. Feb. 13, 1937

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucetta Smith were held at the home in Ronald 
township Friday, February 12 at 2 o’clock with Rev. Paul Stewart officiating. 
Music was furnished by Mrs. Ray Colwell and Mrs. Thane Benedict. Flowers were 
in charge of Mrs. Byron Haskins and Mrs. George Conkey. Interment was at the 
Woodard lake cemetery.

Bearers were relatives, Charles Brown, Elwin Brown, Robert Brown, Nodwood 
Dennis, Milton Smith and Milton Smith, Jr. 

Relatives and friends from away attending were; Mr. and Mrs. T.L. Leach, Mr. 
and Mrs. Arthur Moody and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. 
Bernard Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Brown, Mr. and 
Mrs. Jay Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. Steven Brown.
