Sept. 6, 1951 PROMINENT RESIDENT TAKEN BY DEATH MON. Ray Smith, widely known and life long resident of Berlin township, died at his home about six o’clock Monday evening, September 3. He suffered a serious illness of virus pneumonia last winter, which left him with a weak heart. He grew steadily worse following a severe heart attack late Sunday night. Mr. Smith was born May 30, 1883, in Berlin, the son of John C. and Lillian (Curtis) Smith. In June, 1907, he was married to Phena Adgate, who with their two sons and a daughter, survive him. They are Mrs. Waldo Fuller, Alden and Arthur Smith, and ten grandchildren, all of Berlin: a sister, Mrs. Beulah Adgate and a brother, Prof. Leon Sheldon Smith of Normal, Ill. Mr. Smith was a member of the Board of County Road Commissioners, a former supervisor of Berlin township, member of Berlin Grange and Farm Bureau. Rev. Glenn McCarty will officiate at the funeral service which will be from Saranac Community church at two o’clock Thursday afternoon. Burial in Saranac cemetery.
