Portland Review & Observer - March 11, 2007

Richard Charles Smith, 66, of Portland died March 2, 2007.

He was born March 7, 1940 in Portland the son of Julius and Julia (Feldpausch) 
Smith. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Portland and a member of the 
Knights of Columbus #2168 in Portland. Dick retired from Oldsmobile in Lansing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Bill, and Leo Smithy; 
sisters, Viola Dutcher and Rita Scheurer; sisters-in-law, Rosella Smith, and 
Evelyn Smith; brothers-in-law, Richard Simon, Donald Dutcher and Robert Simon; 
niece, Sharon Hengesbach and nephew, Patrick Simon. 

Surviving are brothers, George and Joe Smith of Portland, Charles Smith of 
Mulliken; sisters, Helen Simon of Pewamo, Ruthann (Alban) Hengesbach of 
Westphalia, Jean Van Ostran of Lansing, Rosemary Simon and Julie (Dan) Leonard 
of Portland; brother-in-law, Ford Scheurer of Ionia; sisters-in-law, Gail Smith 
from Grand Ledge, and Christine Smith from Westphalia; great-aunt, Esther 
Schrauben of Portland; many nieces and nephews and cousins. 

Mass of Christian Burial was held March 6 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 
Portland with Rev. Larry King presiding. Rite of Committal followed in Portland 
Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 
Portland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick Church Boiler Fund in 
memory of Richard C. Smith.
