March 18, 1919 DEATH OF MRS. GEO. SMITH Estimable Young Wife and Mother Called to Her Reward Mrs. George T. Smith died at her farm home, northwest of the village early Friday morning. She had been hopelessly ill for several days. Funeral services were held at the house Sunday afternoon, Revs. T.F. Galt, of the Congregational, and Rev. J.M. DeVetta, of the Baptist churches, officiating. Many sympathizing friends attended. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband and four children- Mrs. Dale Blackman, Harold, Laban and Earl Smith; her father, Frank Chalker, and a sister, Mrs. W.S. Terry, of Detroit. Mrs. Terry arrived in Portland several days before her sister’s death and assisted in her care. Mr. Terry came Saturday to attend the funeral. The maiden name of the deceased was Tressa B. Chalker and she was born near Ann Arbor, Mich., Dec. 21, 1873. She came to Portland with her parents, where her marriage to Mr. Smith took place. She was an active member of the Congregational Guild and of the Eastern Star, both organizations being represented at the funeral.
