Ionia County News - Thurs. Nov. 3, 1949

E. Wayne Smith, 47, formerly of Belding and Saranac, died Saturday in a Newaygo 
restaurant of a heart attack. 

He was born in Hastings Dec. 19, 1901, and had been a farmer and restaurant 
owner in Belding before moving to Saranac and then to Newaygo during the war 
years. He was a member of Ionia Lodge, L.O.O.M.

Surviving are the widow, Alice; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Harris of Belding 
and Mrs. Mary Lou Smith of Grand Rapids; two sons, Pvt. Robert W. Smith, now in 
the South Pacific, and David Lee Smith of Hastings; his mother, Mrs. Nora 
Smith, of Hastings; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Dunlap of Hastings and Mrs. 
Esther Pratt of St. Johns, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from Fales-Huffman Chapel, 
Belding. Burial in River Ridge Cemetery.
