Robert Wayne Smith, 60, of 216 Vincent, Belding, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 1991, 
at St. Mary’s Hospital.  Mr. Smith was born February 23, 1931, in Hastings, the 
son of Wayne and Pearl Erway Smith.  He was a longtime area cabinet maker and 
former bartender at the Driftway Inn for 14 years.  He was a veteran of the 
U.S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict, and a member of VFw Post 4406, 
Belding.

Surviving are three sons, Randy and Robin, both of Grand Rapids, Robert, 
serving with the U.S. Navy in the Persian Gulf; Margaret Meddler, Belding; a 
sister, Mrs. Donald (Mary Lou) Roth, Hastings; a brother and his wife, David 
and Peggy Smith, Hastings; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Harris.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at River Ridge Cemetery, Pastor 
Kenneth Harger officiating, with military rites by VFW Post 4406.  Visitation 
at Johnson Funeral Home, Belding, will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
