Doris M. Smith, 71, of Greenville, passed away Friday morning, April 20, 2007, 
at Metron of Greenville.  She was born October 28, 1935, in Sparta, the 
daughter of Forrest and Margaritte Helmer Burgess.  

Doris graduated from Sparta High School with the class of 1956.  She was a 
member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville and the Ladies Auxiliary of 
the Sheridan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065.  Doris loved her family, 
knitting and crafts.  She volunteered at Metron of Greenville helping the 
residents with activities.  She will be greatly missed by her family and 
friends.

Doris was married on May 28, 1960 in Kent City to Lloyd K. Smith and he 
preceded her in death on August 23, 2006.  She also was preceded in death by 
her parents and one sister, Eleanor Burgess.

Doris is survived by her children, Forrest and Lisa Smith of Big Rapids, Byron 
and Claudia Smith of Jackson, Martin and Amy Smith of Sylacauga, Ala., Joy 
Skutt of Belding, Roger and Victoria Smith of Delton; 16 grandchildren and 14 
great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Glenna Burgess of Sparta, Keith 
Burgess of Grand Rapids, and Lois Hall of Sparta.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, 
Belding, with Pastor Clay Bates of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Greenville, 
officiating.  Interment will follow in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding.  
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the 
Activities Fund of Metron of Greenville.
