She was born on Sept. 13, 1923 in Manistee, the daughter of Harold & Dorothy (Luscher) Storey. A graduate of Manistee High School, she married Otto J. Smith on Jan. 31, 1942. Answering the call of her country, she proudly served as a Private First Class in the Women’s Army Corps (WACS) of the U.S. Army during World War II. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto J. Smith on Jan. 27, 1977; and two sisters, Betty Lamerson, and Edith Halterman. Surviving are daughter, Sheri L. Smith; three granddaughters, Kristina Betser and Dan Collins of Lakeview, Courtney Smith of Belding, and Ashley Smith of Greenville; four great grandchildren with the fifth on the way, Damien Smith, Darien Betser, Sierra Smith, and Lucas Gotwalt; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Greenville Community Church, 6596 S. Vining Road, with Pastor Tom Hansen officiating. Military honors will follow the service, with burial taking place privately at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation is Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. at the church, where envelopes for memorial contributions will be available.
