Rev. Harold Homer, pastor of the church officiated at the rites which were in charge of the Burns Funeral Home of Carson City. Interment was made in the West Side cemetery, Hubbardston. Mr. Smith was born in Clinton county June 17, 1902, the son of William W. and Eva Keefer Smith. His early years were spent on the farm near Hubbardston. Later the family moved to Hubbardston and this was his home until about a year ago when the illness of his sister, Helen, made other arrangements necessary, and he went to live at the Newhall Convalescent Home near Morley, where he died Monday, October 1. Maurice was crippled all his life and it became increasingly hard for him to walk. For the past eight months he had been confined to a wheel chair. His affliction in no way clouded his sunny disposition. He had a fine bass voice which had been well trained, and he was never happier than when singing. For many years after the death of his mother he was devotedly cared for by his aunt, May Smith, and later by his sisters, Helen and Marjorie Smith, who survive him, as does a brother, Harold. His parents and baby sister, Florence, died many years ago.
