Hastings Reminder - Sat. April 13, 2013

SHIPSHEWANA, IN – Carol Smith (Stahl), age 66, formerly of Clarksville went to 
be with the Lord Monday, April 8, 2013 in Shipshewana, IN.

She was born April 13, 1946 in Clarksville, MI to Clare and Maxine (Litchfield) 
Stahl. Carol had attended Saranac Public Schools and later earned her nursing 
degree from Northport Community College in Northport, FL. After years of 
dedicated service she retired from the Grand Rapids Veterans Facility 
Alzheimer’s Unit as Charge Nurse. In her spare time Carol became a master 
gardener and lived for Antiques.

Survivors include husband, James Smithy; children, Julie (Jeff) Mead of 
Bellevue, Jodi (Theron) Spicer of Grand Rapids, Scott (Julie) Brandt of 
Clarksville; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren, siblings, 
Kendall (Marvel) Stahl of KY, and Joy (Sam) Holley of Hastings, along with many 
nieces and nephews.

Preceding Carol in death are her parents; brothers, Francis and Forrest Dean 
Stahl.

A celebration of Carol’s life was held Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Odessa 
Township Community Room, 3862 Laurel Drive (M50), Lake Odessa, MI 48849 with 
Pastor Tim Bateman officiating.

According to her wishes cremation has taken place and burial will occur at 
Clarksville Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials in Carol’s name may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 
East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
