Loyd Donald Smith, 81, of Greenville passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at 
Spectrum Health Long Term Care in Lakeview. Lloyd was born on Nov. 5, 1931 I 
Lansing, the son of Don Lloyd and Agnes “Irene) (Warner) Smith. He was raised 
in the Leslie area and graduated from Leslie High School in 1950. He continued 
his education at Jackson Community College, obtaining an Associate’s Degree. 

Immediately up on his high school graduation he served our country in the Air 
Force during the Korean War. On Dec. 31, 1955, Lloyd married the love of his 
life, Patricia Louise Dangler in Jackson, Mich. Lloyd was employed as a mail 
carrier for the U.S. Postal service in Jackson County for over 40 years. He was 
a member of the Sunshine Worship Canter, of Lakeview and National Associates of 
Letter Carriers (NALC).

Loyd enjoyed watching TV, raising German Shepherd show dogs, playing cornet, 
playing cards – especially euchre, teasing others and enjoyed socializing at 
McDonald’s during breakfast.

Loyd is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children; Diane (Harlan) Peck of 
Winston Salem, N.C., Dennis (Ria) Smith of Las Vegas, Donald (Cida) Smith of 
Winter Garden, Fla., Anne Marie (Brian) Porter of Jackson and James (Debra) 
Smith of Howard City; 11 grandchildren; Sarah, Donald J, Sharon, Chasity, 
Joseph, Jennifer, Jonathan, Derek, Jeremy, Kasie and Jordan; 11 great-
grandchildren and one of the way.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Howard (Gayle) Smith and 
a sister, Helen (Bernard) Hemstreet.

A funeral service to celebrate Loyd’s life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 
11 a.m. at the Cornerstone Worship Center, 9190 Howard City Edmore Road NE, 
Vestaburg with Pastor Don Wolf officiating. The family will receive support 
from their friends at a visitation scheduled for Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 from 5 to 
7 p.m. at Brigham Funeral Chapel, 9977 W. Howard City Edmore Road, Lakeview and 
on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. (one hour prior to the service at the 
Cornerstone Worship Center.

Memorial contributions in Loyd’s name may be made payable to the Salvation Army.
