Belding – Eugene Smith, 101, 1115 W. Ellis Ave., Belding, passed away Tuesday,
July 22, 1997, at his home.  He was born June 28, 1896, in Lakeview, the son of
Charles Eugene and Mary Forman Smith.  He was a lifelong resident of Belding,
and a farmer and home builder.

He is survived by his wife, Reva Benton Smith of Jackson; one daughter and
son-in-law, Sharon and Richard Rayborn of Wausau, Wis.; a daughter-in-law,
Geraldine Smith of Belding; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 11
great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel,
in 1967, and a son, Claud Smith, in 1992.

Graveside services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Greene Cemetery, Belding, with
the Rev. Chuck Williams of Belding United Methodist Church officiating.  There
will be no visitation.  Arrangements are being handled by Huffman Funeral Home,
Belding.
