He had been stricken with cerebral hemorrhage the preceding Sunday morning, soon after arising, and had failed gradually during the week. The funeral occurred Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Hurd, of the Methodist Church. The large house was filled with many Belding friends and neighbors, and many from the old home community, near Palo. Beautiful music was furnished by Mrs. Cornell and Mrs. E.E. Hudson. Deceased was born in Germany, in the Rhine provinces, eighty-four years ago, and came to this country with his parents at the age of 8 years. The trip was by sailing vessel and took six weeks. The first home was at Kendallville, Indiana, but all came to Palo, Michigan, in 1866 and 67 and purchased lands which was the home for forty-four years. He was married to Miss Hattie Roberts in 1882 and the couple came to Belding to spend their declining years in 1910. Both were converted and joined the West Bushnell church, under the preaching of the Rev. Janes, father of Frank Janes, well known in Belding. Of the remaining family of six sisters, three remain, Mrs. J.W. Minier, of the city; Mrs. Elizabeth Minier, of Kalamazoo, and Mrs. Mary Broughey, of Traverse City. Thus passes peacefully and quietly, at the ripe age of eighty-six, one of our aged citizens, after a long life of Christian integrity, faithfulness, and industry. He knew the Lord and loved his church, and was faithful to the end.
