Frank A. Smith Found in a Dying Condition in the Road at an Early Hour, Sunday Morning. Frank A. Smith died quite suddenly Sunday morning, shortly after 6 o’clock. He resided on the Northside with his family and arose in the morning about five o’clock telling his wife he would go and take a walk as he was not feeling well. In about one hour he was brought back to the house in a dying condition, and expired soon after. Matt Retterstorf and Frank Simons had started out to go fishing and just after they had passed the Belding farm house they discovered a man lying on the ground in the road almost unconscious. They called Mr. Mikesell who immediately recognized him as being Mr. Smith but did not know where he lived. He was in great pain and wanted to be taken home. Mr. Mikesell hurriedly hitched up a team and had him taken to Mr. Mitchell’s who immediately took him home, calling up his son, Leonard to care for him. Dr. Pinkham was quickly sent for, but on his arrival soon ascertained that the man was beyond medical help and he expired in a few minutes. Mr. Smith had been afflicted with kidney disease for several years and of late his trouble had been growing worse. On two or three other occasions in the past few years he had been brought home suffering with similar attacks as the last one. The day before he walked to Greenville and back in search of work and it is supposed this had much to do with bringing on a recurrence of his trouble in an acute form. Mr. Mikesell says he told him he had not taken anything but that he became terribly sick and fell down in the road and wanted to be taken home. He was 52 years old and moved here three or four years ago from Clarkston, Mich., he leaves a wife and six children. He was a member of the order of Maccabees and was buried under their auspices Tuesday afternoon, the funeral being held at the M.E. church. Deceased carried a life insurance policy of $2,000.
