Smith, age 95, of Clarksville, passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 2, 2001. Burton was born in Sebewa Township on Oct. 27, 1905 to William and Louise (Sindlinger) Smith. He attended grade school in Sebewa and graduated from Sunfield High School in 1921. He was married for more than 50 years to Winifred Clow Smith. During his lifetime, Burton had worked for Smith-Groen Lumber and Hardware manufacturing windows, but his real love remained with farming. He was always happy and content tending his garden. Above all, Burton had dedicated his life to Christ and doing the will of God. Burton is survived by his daughter, Selma Williamson of Wayland; his son, Burton M. “Jack” Smith, Jr. of Grand Rapids; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Winifred; his brothers, Clyde, Clifton, and Glenn; and his sister, Violet. The funeral service was held Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ionia. Burial was at Clarksville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
