Mrs. Smith was 57 years old at the time of her death, and had long been a sufferer from heart trouble. The funeral was attended from the residence on Thursday afternoon. -------------------- The funeral of Mrs. Peter Smith took place yesterday afternoon from the residence on Lafayette street. There was a good attendance of neighbors and friends. The discourse was by Rev. W.H. Scott, of the Disciple’s church, on account of the absence of Revs. A.M. Gould and A.P. Moors, Mrs. Smith being a member of the M.E. church. The music was by a quartet, consisting of J.E. Just, Mrs. F.C. Livermore, Miss Wortley and C.L. Bemis, with Miss Mary Colton as organist. A piece of music composed by Prof. Proctor, of Minneapolis, a personal friend of Prof. Eugene Smith, dedicated to Mrs. Smith, entitled “My Heavenly Home,” was among those sung. The display of flowers was large and very fine, Mrs. Smith having been especially fond of flowers and it being her request to be “buried in flowers.” The children, Frank, Eugene, Charles and Mr. Smith’s brother, Harmon, were the bearers. Interment was in Oakhill cemetery.
