Smith, 76, of 824 Morton Street were held Wednesday, August 13 at 2 p.m. Pastor Carl Hart officiated at the services which were held at the Fitzjohn-Courser Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jack Giesecke, Leon Shoff, Dene Allen, Richard Northrup, Culver Withrow and Lowell Frazier. Interment was at Rest Haven Memory Garden, Ionia County. Mr. Smith, who was born February 13, 1893 in Stanwood, died unexpectedly at his home. He was married to Queen Esther Green August 29, 1916. She preceded him in death. Mr. Smith lived at 834 Morton Street for 20 years. Prior to that time he resided in the Coral-Morley area. A retired schoolteacher, he was a former housing director of Belding, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Greenville. He also belonged to the Michigan Education Association and the National Education Association. Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Doris (Stanley) Swanson of Grand Ledge, a son Kenneth Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana, a sister Mrs. Charles Allen of Grand Rapids, a brother Kennard Smith of Muskegon, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
