Chuck was born in Sept. 30, 1943, in Grand Rapids, the son of Charles and Hazel (Cudaback) Smith. He graduated from Grand Rapids High School with the Class of 1961 and later worked 25 years as a Fed Ex driver, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed working with wood and loved to go fishing. He married Shelva Patrick on April 29, 1999, in Rockford and she survives along with his children, Mike (Sue) Smith of Tennessee, Tina (Tim) Stephens of Howard City; stepchildren, Brenda (Chris) Hill, Mike Haney, Dan (Jackie) Haney, all of Ionia, Tim (Tracie) Haney of Belding and Tricia (Samuel) Montero of Ionia; three grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren; and sister and brother-in-law, Maxine (Skip) Gray of Florida. Chuck was preceded by his parents; one grandson, Trevor, and special uncle, Richard Cudaback. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Joe Gerkin officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Committal prayers will be in the spring with Pastor Ken Harger at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alvah N. Belding Library.
