Mrs. Smith was born in Ionia March 16, 1878, the daughter of Robert and Cynthia Eliza Sweeney Willobee. She lived in nearly all her life in this vicinity. She married D.E. Smith and he died several years ago. He worked at the Hayes-Ionia plant as a bookkeeper. After his death Mrs. Smith went to Rochester to make her home with her son. For the past two months she had been in ill health. While in Ionia she attended the Ionia Church of Christ. Surviving are the sun, Arnold, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Gable, of Ionia. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. from Rochester. Interment will be at Caseville. -------------------- Prayer services for Mrs. Mertie Smith, former Ionian and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Willoughby Page, was conducted from Rochester Friday at 3:30 p.m. from the Hobart funeral home. Rev. Colycock of Rochester conducted the service. Mrs. Smith died at the home of her son, Arnold, at Rochester. Interment was held at Caseville cemetery on Saturday morning. Among those present for the service were Mrs. Nita Gable of Ionia, a niece, and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Gable of Pontiac. Miss Gable returned to Ionia Tuesday after remaining in Pontiac at the home of her brother for four days.
