Smith, 70, from the Stone funeral home Saturday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Smith was killed by a train last Sunday in Buffalo New York. Frederick Smith was born March 6, 1872, in Hornell Steuben county, New York. He spent the past 45 years in the vicinity of Ionia. A number of years was spent working in Easton township and for the past 33 years he had been employed by the Ionia county road commission. He retired about three months ago. He was a member of the Spanish American War veterans, a member of Company I, 34th Michigan Infantry, a member of the Frank D. Curtis camp. Members of Frank D. Curtis camp will conduct the military service and burial will be in Easton cemetery. The body arrived from New York early Friday morning.
