Nelson R. Smith, 72, of 8500 Peck Lake Road, Saranac, died in Port Charlotte,
Florida late Saturday evening.  He was born in Clarksville on October 5, 1912,
the son of Racie and Mable Smith.  He farmed in the Saranac area all of his
life.  He married Alberta Johnson on November 2, 1935, in Saranac.

Surviving are his wife; one son Robert Smith of Florida; one son, Charles,
preceded him in death in 1983; five daughters, Mrs. Harold (Eileen) Dunkel of
Ionia, Mrs. Dave (Elaine) Scudder of Hastings, Mrs. Sharon Miller of Ionia, Mrs.
Glenn (Carolyn) Boyer of Florida and Mrs. Mary Snith of Missouri; 18
grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in
Saranac with Rev. Ronald Tuinstra of the South Boston Bible Church officiating.
 Internment will be in Easton Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home
Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
