JOAN MARIE CARMEY SMITH 1934-2017
Joan Marie Carmey Smith, 82, of Ionia, MI passed away Feb. 23, 2017 in 
Lansing,MI. She was born Dec. 13, 1934 the daughter of Leonard and Anne 
(Merkle) Smith. Joan was a graduate of Gladwin high School, Class of 1942.

Joan lived a life of service, working for St. Lawrence hospital for 10 years, 
Ionia hospital OB department for 26 years and served as a home care nurse's 
aide until retirement. Joan enjoyed needle point, embroidery and watching 
football, baseball and hockey.

Joan is survived by her children, Ginger (Randy) Barrett of Ionia, Carol 
Carmey of Grand Ledge, Jane Carmey of Paw Pa and Eric Carmey of Ionia, 
grandchildren, Donna (Jeremy) Walch of Ionia, Ashlie Carmey of Ionia, Emily 
Carmey of Ionia; nine additional grandchildren; great grandchildren, Tyler 
Walch of Ionia; 12 additional great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Paddock of 
Lansing,; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Carmey; and a 
brother-in-law, Duane Paddock.

Cremation ha taken place and there will be no services at this time.
