Sentinel-Std. - Monday, March 6, 1989

PORTLAND- Muriel E. Smith, 84, of 422 Kent, Portland, died March 5 in a Lansing 
hospital.

Born April 10, 1904, in Clinton County, she was the daughter of John and Libbie 
Reeder Hudson.

Surviving are a son, Richard E. Smith of Middleville; two daughters, Carolyn 
Smith of Portland and Mary Lou Miller of Lansing; nine grandchildren; 10 great 
grandchildren; and a brother, George, of Portland. 

She joined the Portland United Methodist Church in 1912 and was the oldest 
member of the church at the time of her death.

She was graduated from Portland High School in 1923, and worked for General 
Motors in Ionia for several years and also worked at the Portland Drug Store for 
many years. She was a past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 
257.

Her husband Elmer preceded  her in death in 1985.

Funeral services will be March 8, at 1 p.m. from Neller Funeral Home with the 
Rev. Stanley Finkbeiner officiating.

Burial will be in Portland Cemetery.

The family will be at the funeral home Monday and Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
