Robert J. Smith, 58, of 255 West Riverside drive died at the Ionia County 
Memorial hospital Tuesday evening at 10 o'clock where he had been a patient 
for the past 23 days. He had been ill for the past two years.

Born in Boston township July 3, (illegible), he was the son of Elmer and 
Laura Smith and was married July (illegible) to Mildred Kimball of Ionia. 
Residing in Ionia all his life, Mr. Smith was a dairy maker by trade and had 
worked at the Ionia, Saranac, Lyons and Montcalm creameries. 

He was a member of the First Christian church, Ionia Lodge F&AM No. 36 and 
Ionia Chapter No. 14, R.A.M.

Surviving are his wife Mildred; a daughter, Mrs. Bernard Robinson, Pontiac; 
four brothers, Burr and Ward of Ionia, Otis of Saranac and Howard of 
Jackson; two sisters, Mrs. Cassie Wood, Lansing and Mrs. Maxine Smith of 
Grand Rapids.

Funeral services will be at the Boynton funeral home Friday afternoon at 2 
o'clock with the Rev. Floyd Emshwiller officiating. Interment will be in the 
family lot in Saranac cemetery.
