Dolores May Smith, age 98, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2003.

She was born in Bluffton, Ind. March 21, 1905, the daughter of Charles F. and 
Margaret (Miller) Rowland. She grew up in the Bluffton, Grand Rapids and 
Muskegon areas, later attending Kendall Art School, after high school. She was a 
lover of music both classical and opera, and earlier in her life produced many 
wonderful oil paintings. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Charles Rowland; son Gerald 
Smith.

Surviving ae her daughter-in-law Deb (Bud) Hattis; grandchildren, Cheri (Robin) 
Murphy, David (Sylvia) Smith, and Kim (Michael) Schafer; 11 great grandchildren, 
Jordan, Katelyn, and Brandan Murphy; Valerie, Jessica, and Stephanie Smith, Leah 
Ryan, Megan, Adam and Hannah Schafer. 

Services were conducted by the Rev. Jim Howard, pastor of the First Baptist 
Church of Portland, Friday June 13, at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 
Portland Chapel. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery in Muskegon.
