Mark Allen Smith Dies at Chicago

Mark Allen Smith, age 13, of Downers Grove, Ill. passed away Wednesday, December 
24, at the Childrens Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Ill. where he was 
hospitalized for a week but had been in ill health the past year.

He was born in Hastings, June 9, 1962, the son of Ben and Sharon (Klopfenstein) 
Smith, and attended the Delton Schools through the 5th grade while the family 
resided at Delton. They moved to LaGrange, Ill. and he attended school there for 
two years and then the family moved to Downers Grove, Ill. and Mark was an 
eighth grade student at the time of his death.

Surviving besides his parents, are a grandmother, Mrs. Marie Smith; a great 
grandfather, Fred Smith, and great grandmother, Mrs. Anne Beverwyk all of 
Hastings; grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Klofenstein; a great grandmother, 
Mrs. Vera Klofenstein; both of Lake Odessa and a great grandmother, Mrs. Alma 
Nash of Clarksville. 

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 at the Leonard Osgood Funeral Home 
at Hastings. Rev. Sidney Short officiated with burial in the Rutland Cemetery.
