Laban A. Smith Dies Suddenly

Laban A. Smith, 75, member of Ionia County Board of Commissioners, died suddenly 
Sunday morning at his home at 208 Hill, Portland. Death was due to an apparent 
heart attack.

Born August 17, 1897, in Portland township, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. 
George T. Smith.

He was seeking reelection to the county board at the November election from 
District 7, which is composed of Portland city and township and the east half of 
Danby township. He was also a member of Ionia County Republican executive 
committee.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret, a son and daughter, and two grandchildren; one 
brother and a sister.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Neller funeral home in Portland. Rev. 
Bernard Cotton officiated with burial in Portland cemetery.
