Marvel Mae Smith, age 76, of Saranac passed away December 21, 2003 in Ionia. 
She was born January 16, 1927 the daughter of Clyde and Blanche (Hallock) 
Baker. She graduated from Saranac High School in 1946. Marvel married Harold 
Smith July 31, 1945 in Muskegon. who preceded her in death in 1990. 

She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. She worked in food service 
at Saranac High School for several years. She owned and operated an Adult 
Foster Home in Saranac for twenty three years, she also cared for foster 
children for many, many years.

She is survived by her children Brenda and Kevin Scheidt of Saranac, Jason and 
Robin Baker of Saranac, Lorraine Youngren of Ionia, Robert Smith of Holly, 
Linda and Dave Rowley of McBride; brothers, Claude and Virginia Baker of 
Arizona, Cleo and Ilene Baker of Ionia, Dale and Ruth Baker of Saranac; eleven 
grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one 
son Carl in 1956, daughter Shirley in 1956, two infant daughters, one brother 
Elmo Baker, one sister in law Vida Baker, and one son-in-law James Youngren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at 
Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ionia with Mr. Gerald Baker officiating. 
Interment Saranac Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday 2-4 and 7-8:30 
P.M. at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. Anyone wishing may make a memorial 
contribution to Saranac First Responders or Seventh Day Adventist.
