John Smith, Retired Farmer of Woodland, Passes Away at Age of 70 Years. With the death of John Smith Woodland loses a faithful member of the Woodland Evangelical church a loyal friend and a substantial citizen. Mr.Smith was always interested in every activity for the betterment of the community. He was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly mourned in this rupture of a family of four as he leaves besides his faithful wife, a son and daughter. The funeral was held at the Evangelical church, June 5, and was largely attended by man relatives and friends of the deceased and his family. Rev. Harley Townsend and Rev. Klopfenstine officiated and burial was in the Lakeside cemetery. OBITUARY John Smith was born September 21, 1863, and passed away at his home in Woodland, June 2, 1934, aged 70 years, eight months and 12 days. His childhood days were spent on his father's farm, one-half mile south of Woodbury where he lived with his stepmother and brother until at the age of 30, he purchased the farm which has been his home until six years ago when he retired from farm life to his home in Woodland and lived there until his death. In the year of 1895 he was united in marriage to Louise Gerlinger. To this union two children were born, Laura and Harold. He was a kind and considerate father and husband, and won many friends with his quiet and generous ways. He was a member of the Evangelical Church. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs Arthur Statsick, one son Harold, one granddaughter JoAnne Louise and one brother Daniel. CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to our relatives, friends, and neighbors for the sympathy shown us in our recent bereavement, the death of our beloved husband and father. Especially do we thank Rev. Harley Townsend and Rev. Klopfenstine for their comforting words spoken, the singers, those sending floral offerings and those who loaned their cars.
