Former Woodland Mail Carrier died Wednesday

J.L."Lot" Smith, 87, rural mail carrier out of Woodland for 24 years, died at 7 
PM last Wednesday at his home there, following several months' illness. He was 
born Oct. 6, 1861, in Covington, OH.

Mr.Smith retired as a mail carrier in 1931. He was an honorary life member of 
the Masonic Lodge, was a member of the Knights of Pythias, and of the Barry 
county Rural Mail Carriers' association.

Surviving is the wife, Susan (Lindsay) Smith. Services were held at 2 PM Friday 
from the Wing & Pickens Funeral Home with the Rev. Merle Benson officiating. 
Burial was in Lakeside cemetery.
