OBITUARY John George Smith, one of the few remaining members of the family of seven children, three sons and four daughters who God gave to our pioneer father John George Smith and hi wife Barbara, nee Hanoes, was born in Sunfield township, just south of Woodbury on June 5, 1864. As most of the pioneers were poor and school facilities were primitive, the boys and girls of that time were expected to either help their parents on the farm or seek employment elsewhere. So it happened that he and his brother David engaged in the carpentry trade, and there still remain many old landmarks in that vicinity which they erected. On January 6, 1892, he was united in Holy wedlock to Miss Louise C.Reiser of Woodland, which union God blesses with two children, one son and one daughter. Later, the Smith brothers (David and George) as they are commonly known, and some of their associated went into the elevator business and our deceased brother has continuously and successfully operated the elevator in Woodbury for nearly forty years. On February 24, 1933, his faithful wife and helpmate, Mrs Louise C.Smith, after a protracted illness, was called to her reward. However, the deceased continued in business and with his only daughter Hilda maintained the home in Woodbury. Last week he contracted a cold which rapidly developed into pneumonia and though he was taken to the hospital at Lake Odessa and medical science did all that could be done he passed away at 12 o'clock noon on Saturday, Oct. 3. His age amounts to 72 years, three months and 28 days. He leaves to mourn his departure, one son Raymond C. at Lake Odessa, one daughter Hilda M.B. at Woodbury, one sister, Mrs.Anna Schelter at Woodbury, two grandchildren Raymond C. Jr. and Charles Bruce Smith, eight nephews, two nieces and a large circle of more remote relatives and a host of friends. CARD OF THANKS We hereby wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all who assisted us during the sickness, death and interment of our beloved father. Hilda M.B. Smith, Raymond C.Smith and family.
