Smith, 52, of Belding, left this world to go home to be with Jesus on Thursday, March 18, 2004. Roger was born to James A. and Mildred O. Taylor Smith on October 20, 1951 in Greenville. Roger was a member of the New Hope Church of God and had lived in Belding all of his life. He had retried from Extruded Metals after 26 years of service. Roger served on the Belding Fire Department for ten years and for many years had helped the Fire Department with volunteer traffic control. Roger was a licensed amateur radio operator - N9HLM, and was a life member of ARRL. He is survived by his parents; his loving wife of 33 years, Rev. Julie S. Smith; his children, Ray-Shel and Robert Myers, Matthew Smith and Mindy; his grandchildren, Amanda Joe, Scott, Christina, Matthew, Samantha, Madilyn, Brett, Tristan and Rebecca. Roger is also survived by his brothers and their spouses, Gary and Cindy Smith, David and Kathy Smith and Randy Smith; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lynne Fransten and Russell and Toni Phenix; many nieces and nephews; all the children at church that called him grandpa and his feline companions, Sassy, Susie, Caleb, Sweetie, Kei Kei, Precious and Missy. Memorial services for Roger will be 3 p.m. Monday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Pastors Kelly Munger and Jack Dunn officiating. Following the service a fellowship dinner will be held at New Hop Church of God, 9840 W. Belding Rd. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens. Roger's memorial request was that you take your family to church this Sunday to see what Jesus is all about.
