Lake Odessa wave-Thurs. September 27, 1956

CLARENCE SMITH DIED FRIDAY

Clarence Wilbur Smith, 84, passed away Friday evening at the Ionia County 
Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for eight days prior to that he 
had been a patient at the Eckert Nursing Home at Ionia for about a year.

A native of Woodland, he worked as a cement contractor in his earlier years and 
had been a resident here but had lived at Portland for the past 44 years. He was 
formerly employed at the hotel Devine, retiring several years ago.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs.George Keeler, Lake Odessa and Mrs.Ed Schribe 
of Wayland; two sons Homer of Lake Odessa and Leo of Hastings; one sister 
Mrs.Henry Geiger, Lake Odessa; three brothers, Fred of lake Odessa; Lewis of 
Lansing and Harry of Cato, New York;17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. 
His wife Martha A.passed away about a year ago.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 at the Pickens Funeral Chapel with burial 
in Lakeside Cemetery.
