She was born on June 20, 1914 in Jennings, the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Gallop) Ross. Mrs. Smith worked at the State of Michigan from 1944-1976 and retired as an Executive in the Car Title Division. Dorothy owned and operated Jeans Tavern in Portland with her husband, Nelson. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson in 1988, a brother, Robert Ross and sisters, Eve Crawford and Margaret Whitehead. Surviving are a son, Ross D. Smith of Portland; stepdaughters, Louise Hamilton, Marilyn (Richard) Fedewa and Patricia (Kenneth) Carter all of Lansing; stepsons, Robert (Betty) Smith of Lansing and Darwin (Camilla) Smith of DeWitt; granddaughter, Tamela Lynn Smith and grandson, Randall Ross Smith; many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Marilyn Danielson, Pastor, at 1 p.m., today at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. Interment will be in Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.
