(Clemendon) Smith (III) died late Wednesday evening at the home of his son, Vern Smith, in Orleans at the age of 75 years. He had been living at the home of his son since March and death was caused by bronchial trouble. He was born in Keene township in 1861, the son of Edgar and Mary Smith. In 1887 he married to Miss Emma Carter, who died in 1883. In 1890 he was united in marriage to Miss Addie Davis of Ionia, and to them were born 4 sons, three of whom died in infancy. He had lived nearly all his life in Easton and Ionia Townships. He leaves a wife, Addie; one son, Vern; four grandsons, Gerald of Woodard Lake, Allen (Alden) in New York, Wayne and Asaph at home; one granddaughter, Maxine; and one great-grandchild; three sisters, Mrs. Orin Green and Mrs. Nettie Hunt of Benton Harbor, and Mrs. George Robinson of Lake Odessa; one brother, Warner Smith of Ionia. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 o'clock from the Stebbins funeral home in Ionia. Rev. Paul Stewart will conduct the services and interment will be in the Easton cemetery." THE DAILY SENTINEL-STANDARD, IONIA, MICH., June 7, 1937: "Deaths - A. C. SMITH - Funeral services for A. C. Smith of Orleans who died late Wednesday evening at the home of his son, Vern, in Orleans were held Sunday afternoon from the Stebbins funeral home in Ionia at 2:30 o'clock. Services were conducted by Rev. Paul L. Stewart. Bearers were Gerald Smith, Alden Smith, Wayne Smith, Ray Smith, Lawrence Davis, and Millard Monger. Relatives attending from out of town were Alden Smith of Ogdensburg, New York; Coralyn Stone of Muskegon, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smith, Mrs. Guy Mungerson, Ensign Phillips of Grand Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Potter, Mrs. Laurel Rose and Florence Lane of Saranac, Mr. and Mrs. George Robinson of Lake Odessa, Mrs. Nettie Hunt and son Edward of Benton Harbor, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Chapman of Stanton and Jay Carter of Lowell."
