ALVEY SMITH DEAD OBITUARY Mrs. Alvey Smith whose lingering illness for the past five or six months, had caused her life to be despaired of, passed away about noon Tuesday, age 63 years. The funeral was held yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at the Congregational Church, conducted by the Pastor Roy Trevor C.Jones and interment was made in Lakeside cemetery. Mrs. Smith's maiden name was Catherine Knapp, she was born at Suffield, Portage county Ohio, April 25, 1843 and not long after her people moved to Rootstown, O., later they moved to Hamlin Eaton county, where the daughter grew to womanhood and where in 1863 she was married to Mr. Alvey Smith In early life she was converted to the Christian faith and joined the Evangelical church but upon moving here to Lake Odessa she joined the Congregational Church and has ever since has been one of its faithful and beloved members. One son, Adelbert, and the husband survive her, upon both of whom her death falls heavily. Tearfully they have watched her life slowly ebb away and when the final summons came regretted that they could not do still something more for her. A sister, Mrs.Sophia Adams of Ill., and a brother Peter Knapp of Ithaca were unable to attend the funeral on account of illness. Miss Ola Plowman of Mt.Pleasant, a niece of the deceased was in attendance. The funeral service was largely attended which was a fitting tribute to the noble life departed to dwell in the spirit world beyond and awaiting the coming of dear ones left behind, her will ever remain as a fitting tribute of love and devotion. The WAVE joins with the many friends in extending sympathy and a kind word to the bereaved ones.
