SMITH, EDGAR:
   THE SARANAC ADVERTISER, May 31, 1906:  "Edgar Smith, an old resident of
Keene, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Orrin Green, Monday afternoon.  He
went to Ann Arbor in November for treatment for a cancer but received no help
and has been failing ever since that time.  He was 70 years of age.  His remains
were taken to Lake Odessa Tuesday where the funeral will be held."
   Correspondence Column of above issue:  "Warner Smith of Lake Odessa is here
to care for his father, Ed Smith, whose death is hourly expected."

   THE SARANAC ADVERTISER, June 7, 1906, front page:  "Edgar Smith passed from
this life Monday afternoon, May 28th, 1906, at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
Oren Green of Keene.
   Mr. Smith was born in Novi, Oakland County, Michigan, August 24, 1835 and was
the only son of his parents.  He has been a great sufferer since early last
fall, from cancer, and his wonderful will kept him up longer than any of his
friends thought it possible.  He rarely complained but often expressed a wish to
be at rest.  His whole thought through all his terrible trial, was to make as
little work and trouble for others as possible.
   He is survived by three sisters, six children, and several grandchildren.  He
loved to have his children by his bedside and appreciated fully all the loving
faithful hands did for him until the last.
   The funeral was held from the Lake Odessa church Thursday morning and the
remains laid to rest beside those of his beloved wife who preceded him to the
better land some years ago.  The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire
community."

   IONIA DAILY STANDARD, May 31, 1906, page 4:  "Brief Mention - Edgar Smith, an
old resident of this section died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Orin Green,
in Keene, Monday night.  His remains were taken to Lake Odessa for burial
Tuesday.  He was 70 years old."
